Oaklyn Green Team Meeting

January 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Oaklyn Green Team meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of every month in the Oaklyn Borough Hall, 1st floor Caucus meeting room (Unless otherwise noted. All changes will be posted within the event page.)

PLEASE NOTE: The front door is locked at this time of night. Please enter through the rear door of the building adjacent to the parking lot, and go up one flight of steps. (An elevator is available if needed) once through the door, make a left, and the Caucus room is at the end of the hallway to the right.

Our Green Team is actively recruiting new members. Everyone is welcome as are your ideas and your contributions of time, energy, and expertise.

We are seeking residents as well as representatives from business, civic, nonprofit, and faith-based organizations. We are striving for an inclusive Green Team that will represent a cross section of our entire community. In this way, all our views, experiences and knowledge will contribute to creating solutions to the issues we face together.

We are currently working on the following topics:

* Invasive plants

* Recycling information for residents

* Adverse effects of pesticides and decreasing their use

* Community Composting and Recycling of Biomass such as wood chips.

* Collecting seeds and packing them up for distribution through our seed library.

* Using several plots in our community garden as donation plots to grow and harvest food for the needy and setting up an educational and experiential garden for our school.

* Use of curbside areas as wildflower gardens for pollinators, plantings, swales, rain gardens, etc.

* “Welcome to Oaklyn” Informational Packets to new residents outlining helpful information such as: trash and recycle pickups, regulations, yard waste regulations, businesses in town including menus and coupons, contact information for borough departments and Facebook information.

* Research and a program for storm water remediation using mushrooms and burlap at inlets to Peters Creek and Newton Creek in town.

There is much to be done and many hands are needed to bring about a greener more sustainable Oaklyn. If you have additional ideas to add to our project list, please join us and we will formulate a solution together.
